Pass the Mic: FREE Media Training for Young People

Have an idea you want to pitch or a project to share? Want to learn about the media machine? Come to YACVic's free Media Training and learn what the media is, how to think critically about the media you use, how to talk to them and how to share an idea! And more!

What to expect

Do you want to speak to the media on an issue that affects you?

Young people should be actively advocating and representing their communities in the media on issues we care about. Yet only 1% of stories in Australian mainstream media directly quote young people.

YACVic are running dedicated media training for young people aged 12 to 25. This workshop equips you with the tools and knowledge to understand the media, know how to pitch a story, write a media release, use social media and nail a media interview.

This session is designed for a small group of up to 30 young people.

Topics we cover:

  • Understanding the Media Mix

  • The Media today

  • The power of storytelling

  • Target audience

Who should attend

This workshop is for young people aged 12 to 25 who want to engage with the media.

Quotes from Previous Participants

“Learnt sooooo much, about elevator pitches, where to pitch, interview techniques - AMAZING!” young participant from City of Monash

“Lots of interactive activities that helped us to practice the skills we learned” young leader from Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare

Accessibility & Inclusion

At YACVic, we take access and inclusion seriously. We are committed to making every event as accessible and inclusive as possible for all members of our community. If you have a specific access request, would like further information or want to provide any suggestions, we would love to hear from you.

Our work takes place through the lands of the Aboriginal nations within Victoria and we pay our respects to their Elders past and present.\

YACVic is a child safe organisation. By attending these events, you agree to join us in our commitment to child safety
