Western District Foodshare
Description
Ensuring emergency food relief is distributed to those experiencing food insecurity across south-west Victoria. A designated Regional Food Hub, tasked to respond to natural disasters and designated emergencies providing much needed food relief coordination. Primary aim is to distribute food to those in need addressing food insecurity across the region.
Monday to Friday we rescue surplus food from local bakeries, supermarkets and producers diverting it from landfill. Food is supplied weekly by Food Bank Victoria and FareShare, along with many local businesses. The community regularly donate food and we purchase essential food products with the money donated to us.
Food is distributed via registered agencies in emergency food hampers (three days’ supply of food),
Emergency overnight food packs for people without cooking facilities.
10kg ambient grocery packs (long life items only) and fresh food hampers, 10 local supermarkets provide fresh fruit, vegetables, bread and grocery products.
Enough food for 3-4 days for a family in need. Financial grant supplements to purchase essential staple foods for hampers like cereal, pasta, canned foods and spreads. Grants are limited.
Please note Food Share does not deliver food directly to the public. Our wonderful agencies deliver and distribute emergency food.
If you need emergency food please contact the Salvation Army, or Brophy Family & Youth Services and they will organise an emergency food hamper for you. If you are linked to another agency or case worker, please contact them. As we have over 100 agencies and schools registered with us chances are they will be able to order emergency food for you
